I was reading a book  that defends the translation Reina-Valera and the Textus Receptus (its base text for the New Testament).One argument says that the version Peshitta used as base text the Textus Receptus for the New Testament and such translation was made in around the year This argument suggests that the Textus Receptus is older than the critical text. All of the books of the New Testament were written within a lifetime of the death of Jesus of Nazareth. Not so the so-called “other gospels,” which were pseudepigraphical Gnostic works written years later.
To date we have over Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, with an astounding million pages of biblical. Only so-called “Old Syriac” manuscripts (which are in Classical Syriac, just linguistically older than the Peshitta) and translations of the Diatessaron.
The earliest actual Peshitta manuscript we have is from the late 5th century or early 6th (Codex Phillipps) which has a very large number of Old.
